Food security and well-being are two concepts of interest to governments, businesses, and academics. In the last decade, professionals and academics have turned their attention not only to productivity and economic growth, but also to the well-being of the societies or economic sectors in which they interact.
Food security is a task that has received increasing attention in both developed and developing countries. It is a necessary task of central interest in developing countries to reduce their dependence on food imports that impact general price levels and equality. Furthermore, food security is related to food sovereignty, a broader dimension that includes respect for local agricultural customs and production methods.
In rural areas, productivity, competitiveness, and food security (market protection policies) are crucial in impacting the well-being of producing regions and related industries. Accordingly, and with the advent of data science, statistical, computational, and business intelligence methods, this Special Issue advocates for the collection of best-in-class research articles proposing new quantitative and qualitative methods and reviews to promote the following tasks (not exclusive):
Methods to cover income, costs, and productivity in agricultural activities.
Theoretical economic, financial, social, and statistical models applied to the solution of any form of welfare, economic and agricultural development, natural resource management, or food sovereignty, as well as reviews of the academic literature.
Quantitative analysis testing public policies related to food security, rural welfare, social and economic development, economic growth, and general welfare related to agricultural activities.
Data science and business intelligence models to improve welfare, productivity, and income of farmers, distributors, industries, and related agents in agricultural activities.
Reviews of the academic literature related to well-being, food security, or food sovereignty in agricultural activities and societies in specific regions or countries.
A quantitative or qualitative discussion of ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and social responsibility practices and their benefits in food security and promoting well-being in agricultural activities.
Mathematical models applied to food sovereignty.
Fuzzy logic or Bayesian statistical models applied to these topics.
Other topics related to the theme and papers from related areas applied to food security and well-being in agricultural activities are also welcome.
