Professor Oscar De la Torre has a Grad in Business and an MSc in Financial Engineering at La Salle University in Mexico. He also holds a PhD in International Business Sciences from Saint Nicholas and Hidalgo, Michoacan State University and is a current PhD in Economics student at the Autonomous University of Madrid.
He has worked in various Financial institutions such as Vector Brokerage at Mexico, The corporate FX division of Scotia Capital, the financial markets subsecretary of FIRA-Bank of Mexico and the Technical Secretary office of the Finance Secretary of Michoacan State, where he was part of the Financial debt restructuring team.
Actually is Professor at Saint Nicholas and Hidalgo Michoacan State University (UMSNH) but has teaching in Master and Grad courses in La Salle University and the Autonomous University of Madrid where he made two research visits.
He also is the editor of the Journal of research in Accounting and Management Sciences (Journal access link here).
His research interest are portfolio management for pension funds, along with the development of econometrics applied in portfolio management (models of regime switching, multivariate GARCH processes and Quanitative and computational investment strategies) and the performance of Socially Responsible Investment.
He also has taken several courses like the "Financial risks analysis" and "Stochastic Economics" courses at UMSNH (given by Professor Francisco Venegas), the “Econometric estimation of frontier functions and economic efficiency” given by the Fiscal studies Center of the Spanish Finance Ministry and NYU (given by professor William Greene) and the “Advanced risk and portfolio management bootcamp” given by Professor Atilio Meucci at New York University.
Among his awards and distinctions, he es full time member of the Nacional Research System of ConACyT in Mexico (Level I) and has two research prices:
- Best paper award 2014 from the European Academy of Management and Business Economics
- Best empirical research 2014 from the American Academy of Financial Management, chapter Latin America.
